Lisa Bachrach, a single mom of three, was diagnosed with MS September of 2002. This was the beginning of her quest to not only find inner peace and joy within herself but to help others find it as well. She has been an active member of the National MS Society for the past 17 years. She has been the leader of the MS Walk Team ‘Newly Diagnosed Fight’ since 2002, rode in the Avonex MS 20 mile bike tour in 2005 and has raised over $80,000 for the NMSS through these and various other fundraising events. She has been a patient advocate for Biogen Idec and an advocate speaker since 2007. She created the fundraising event ‘Healing and Moving for a Cure’ in 2007 which incorporated Yoga, Meditation, Massage, Acupuncture, and Reiki Healings. The money raised through this event helped begin Lisa’s Program ‘The Kathleen Valachi Memorial Fund Home Health Aide Assistance Program. The ‘Healing and Moving for a Cure’ event ran annually and as of July 2012, Lisa has raised over $30,000 to help fund this critical program.
In 2010 Lisa completed her 200 hour Yoga Certification with Laurie Ahlemann through Long Island Yoga School. Currently she took an advanced training course with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman to enhance her teaching skills. She has plans to pursue her 500 hour certification in the near future.
Lisa has shared her love of yoga through her yoga program. In conjunction with the NMSS and various yoga studios including Simplicity Yoga and Absolute Yoga. Lisa offers free yoga classes for those with MS.
Lisa also combined her love of cooking to help educate others. In 2010, she participated in the MS Active Source and Wellness video segment, where she cooked with Amanda Freitag and spoke on how leading a healthy lifestyle, including yoga and good nutrition, is the key to living well with MS.
Lisa continues her study of yoga teaching by attending classes and workshops and continues her study of self on her mat and throughout her life.
